A referral website
Ryde Bathroom Renovations refers enquiries for bathroom and related renovation work. We do not perform building, plumbing, electrical, waterproofing, tiling or asbestos removal work ourselves.
The builder
Renovation work is carried out in partnership with Coastal Renovation Group, a licensed NSW builder. Licence and insurance details are provided on request.
Before anything starts, ask for the licence number and a certificate of currency for insurance, and check the licence yourself on the NSW Fair Trading public register. The register shows the licence holder, the class, the status, the expiry date and any disciplinary history.
The builder issues the quote, enters the contract with you, carries out the work and is responsible for it. Workmanship warranties, and any home building compensation cover required for the job, are the builder's.
What we do not represent
We do not represent that any person or business holds any licence, qualification or insurance other than as described above, and we do not monitor insurance on an ongoing basis. Ask for current documents before work begins.
Asbestos
A large share of the housing in the City of Ryde was built or altered before asbestos was phased out in Australia. We recommend testing before demolition for any bathroom in a building from before 1990.
Asbestos removal requires its own licence in NSW and is carried out by a licensed asbestos removalist, not under a builder's licence. If anyone proposes to demolish an older bathroom without addressing asbestos, do not proceed on that basis.
Strata approvals
Renovation work involving waterproofing in a strata scheme usually requires the owners corporation's approval, because the membrane and the slab are commonly common property. We and the builder can explain what is generally required and help you assemble an application, but we cannot grant an approval, promise an outcome, or guarantee a timeframe. Your scheme's by-laws and your strata manager are the authority for your building, and strata law differs between states and territories.
Council approvals
Internal bathroom work with no structural change is commonly exempt development. Structural change, new external penetrations and work on heritage items may need approval. That is decided by the relevant council — the City of Ryde, Hunters Hill Council or the City of Parramatta, depending on your address, as both Gladesville and Eastwood sit across council boundaries — or by a certifier where applicable. Not by us.
Tenancy matters
Where a renovation involves a rental property, information on this site about landlord and tenant obligations is general only. Residential tenancy requirements are set by NSW legislation and administered by NSW Fair Trading. Get your own advice for your circumstances.
